5 Put to death therefore whatever belongs to your earthly nature: fornication, impurity, lust, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 On account of these things the wrath of God is coming [b]upon the sons of disobedience. 7 You too once walked in these ways when you lived among them. 8 But now you must put them all aside: wrath, anger, malice, slander, and filthy language from your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of its Creator. 11 Here there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free, but Christ is all and in all.
12 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and beloved, put on tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and forgiving one other if any one of you has a complaint against another; just as [c]Christ forgave you, so you also must forgive. 14 Above all, put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 15 Let the peace of [d]God rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another with all wisdom as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to [e]the Lord with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to [f]our God and Father through him.
